There's a plant that's been quietly doing its thing for centuries, long before wellness became an industry. You might have walked right past it — it looks a little like mint, smells faintly of lemon, and grows so easily it's basically a weed. It's called lemon balm, and it's one of our favorite ingredients in both Revive and Exhale.
My introduction to it was not exactly glamorous. A few years ago, I was in New York — decidedly not my best morning — and a friend handed me a lemon balm tincture like it was the most obvious thing in the world. I didn't know what it was. I just knew it helped. Something settled. The anxiety disappeared. I filed it away.
When we started formulating our products, it kept coming up. And the more we looked into it, the more it made sense.
What lemon balm actually does
Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis, if you want to get technical) has been used in traditional medicine for over 2,000 years — for anxiety, sleep, digestion, and general nervous system support. What we now understand is that it works primarily by supporting GABA activity in the brain. GABA is an inhibitory neurotransmitter — its job is essentially to quiet things down. Less noise, less rumination, less of whatever your nervous system has been holding onto.
It's calming without being sedating. That distinction matters to us. We're not trying to knock you out or make you slow. We're trying to help you exhale.
Why it belongs in Revive
Revive was built around recovery — the kind your body needs after a hard run, a hard night, or just a hard week. Lemon balm fits because recovery isn't only physical. It's the nervous system coming back online. It's inflammation quieting, cortisol settling, your body remembering it's safe to rest. Lemon balm works gently alongside the other ingredients in Revive to support exactly that.
Why it belongs in Exhale
Exhale is our most intentionally calming formulation. It's for the moment you actually want to put something down — the day, the mental load, the loop you've been running. Lemon balm is part of what makes Exhale feel the way it does: not forced, not heavy, just a very natural unwinding.
We like ingredients that have been trusted for a long time. Lemon balm has that. And sometimes the best discoveries come from a friend, a rough morning, and a cup of something warm.
